Hi everyone my name is Harriet and I will be blogging my eventing journey with you each month!
Although first of all, I'll let you know that writing is definitely not my thing, I’m so much more comfortable in the saddle and talking! My next post might well be a vlog as already I find I am stuck for something to write (if you know me then you will know I am never stuck for something to say)!
I am so proud to be associated with Pointers. I should, perhaps tell you something about me. I have always known that I wanted to ride professionally and when I won my first event at the age of 12, I was bitten by the eventing bug.
I grew up doing all the usual Schools and Pony Club teams and started British Eventing at the age of 13. As my pony was broken I rode my Mum’s enormous Irish Draft. I could only just about see through his ears but he started my British Eventing career! When I was 15 I got given the most wonderful horse called Estella owned by Jill Chaytor she taught me so much and that lovely horse took me to France with some other potential GB juniors, and we got placed in our first International Overseas event, I got my first taste of what it would be like to compete for GB.
Then in 2012 after the Olympics (It’s the stuff dreams are made of) Tina Cook recommended me to Sean Lawson to ride his Olympic horse Carraig Dubh and the following August I brought him from Sean for 90p! A year later at the age of 18, following several top 5 placings in junior trials we got picked to represent Great Britain at the Junior Europeans. Danny did the most incredible double clear but may have disgraced himself in the dressage as he didn’t like seeing himself on the TV screen! Sadly Danny was not up to young riders and I had to retire him.
So I have spent the last 3 years producing youngsters for quite a few people and am so lucky to have had time based at Hickstead. This year I am riding a very talented youngster called Twinkle that I have produced from a 3 year old for HM The Queen, I have Kilkenny Lady owned by Lydia Roper, who is now qualified for Advanced, I have a retrained racehorse called Beauchamp Pasha that I co-own with Jake Smith, a lovely young four year old I am riding for Jo Richardson and aiming for age classes and a very talented Pre-Novice horse owned by Lucy Haynes.
So not many runs so far this season due to weather and last weekend it was sickness!! Our last time out Twinkle won at Mustead’s UA event in the 90, Pasha came 2nd and Kilkenny Lady came 8th in the Intermediate at Bicton Arena..
Next run Tweseldown with Twinkle and Pasha and Aston le Walls with Kilkenny Lady.
Report back next month!
